A bankrupt textile boss from Guimarães has been sentenced to 48 weekends in jail for tax offences but is appealing on the grounds of the danger of being exposed to the “pernicious effects” of incarceration. The disgraced boss, aged 65, whose factory closed in 2012 and who owes thousands in social security back payments and IVA (VAT), hopes to complete his sentence instead under house arrest.
