Weekend lockdown – what you can and cannot do

The restrictions that will be in place during this weekend lockdown in Portugal have been clarified by the government following some confusion after they were announced yesterday just after lunchtime.

– Travelling between boroughs in Portugal will be prohibited in EVERY BOROUGH between 11pm today (Friday, January 8) and 5am Monday, January 11. In other words, no one will be allowed to leave their borough of residence this weekend, with the exception of emergencies, people travelling due to health reasons and other motives such as going to work (an employer’s declaration will be required).

– A 1pm curfew will be in place in almost every municipality in Portugal this weekend apart from 25 boroughs where the risk of contagion is considered moderate.

‘Moderate risk’ boroughs in the Algarve are: Alcoutim, Aljezur, Lagoa, Monchique and Vila do Bispo.

Elsewhere, they are: Arronches, Barrancos, Carrazedo de Ansiães, Castanheira de Pêra, Castelo de Vide, Coruche, Ferreira do Alentejo, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Manteigas, Odemira, Pampilhosa da Serra, Proença-a-Nova, Resende, Santiago de Cacém, Sardoal, Sernancelhe, Sines, Torre de Moncorvo and Vila de Rei.
