Web Summit opens today with 2,600 startups

Lisbon’s Web Summit, considered one of the biggest technology summits, kicks off today with 2,600 startups (an apparent all-time record) and, for the first time, without Paddy Cosgrave at the helm due to unfortunate remarks made about the Israel-Hamas conflict. A number of Israeli tech firms are not present this year as a result. Nonetheless, organisers say participation this edition is ‘a new record’, with 160 countries represented.
