A group of scouts including 11 teenagers and five adults, left stranded in Serra da Estrela in central Portugal due to bad weather conditions and snow on November 29, were found alive and well hours later by the authorities.
Following this incident, the civil protection recommends that anyone planning a walking or camping trip into the mountains should make local authorities aware of their plans in case of such an emergency.
“The weather in the Serra can change in minutes,” said a spokesman from the local fire brigade.
