Regional water company Águas do Algarve has solved the water supply and waste treatment problems of Culatra, Farol and Armona islands, off the coast of Faro.
According to a statement from the company, the construction of a desalination water treatment plant and a residual water treatment plant, which were foreseen in the concession contract, were too costly.
Instead, the water company have resolved the problem by building a link to the mainland, whereby residents will be supplied by fresh water and residues will be transported to Olhão treatment plant on the mainland.
