Owners and lovers of the Portuguese Water Dog will be able to see some of the best examples of the breed at the annual Water Dog show in Olhos D’Água on October 1.
The breed has its origins in the Algarve and as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the association for the protection of Portuguese Water Dogs (APCAP), the organisers of the event, the show has come to the region.
Exhibitors from across Portugal are expected to be joined by those from Finland, Sweden and Holland in the show, with this being the only way for owners and breeders to be able to obtain a certification of excellence for their dog while also being the only opportunity to become the Portuguese champion of the breed.
A spokesman from the Portuguese Kennel Club told the Algarve Resident: “Due to the importance of the show for the breed, we are expecting a very good turnout.”
The main show will be held in the Praça 25 Abril on October 1 from 2.30pm while there will be working trials on the beach the following day.
