Water consumption down in Algarve

According to data released by Águas do Algarve, the regional water board, water consumption in the Algarve has fallen due to fewer visitors coming to the region and improvements to the water infrastructure in the area.

Águas do Algarve noted that, during the first five months of 2009, there had been a slowdown in water usage, which follows a trend that first began in 2007.

A total of 68 million cubic metres of water, the equivalent of half the capacity of the Barragem do Beliche in Castro Marim, was used in the Algarve during 2008, with the municipality of Loulé accounting for the largest amount of water used per municipality.
