Watching over your skin

Shirin Samimi-Fard has been working as a dermatologist, allergologist and aesthetic laser physician at the German Medical Centre in Carvoeiro since 2005. Her main focus is skin cancer prevention by doing mole check-ups on a regular basis, as well as follow-up with skin cancer patients after surgery.

Most of Shirin Samimi-Fard’s patients are residents in the Algarve – even though they can be English, German, French, Spanish or Portuguese speaking – and as such are exposed daily to high amounts of UV-rays, which is why she recommends an annual check-up of the moles or, in special cases, even quarterly check-ups.

Shirin Samimi-Fard tells us they see a lot of actinic keratoses (AK) and chronic sun damage, mainly in sun exposed skin, which needs a special treatment called photodynamic therapy (PTD).

PDT is the most modern treatment option, with the highest healing rates, to prevent the development of Squamous Cell Carcinoma – a type of skin cancer that can develop out of AKs and spread. A nice side effect of the PDT is the skin rejuvenation reported by all her patients.

Besides the regular dermatology Shirin Samimi-Fard also offers Botox and filler treatments, always trying to achieve a harmonic full face approach rather than targeting just one wrinkle.

With her laser portfolio treatment of pigmented lesions, couperosis and Plasmage treatments of the eyelids as well as removal of skin tags are also available.
