THE POPULAR camping and caravan resort of São João de Caparica outside Lisbon is at risk of being swept away by the sea.
A natural sea defence between beaches to the north of Costa da Caparica and the sea have been destroyed by high tides according to Institute of Water (INAG).
Its president, Orlando Borges, said that the sheer force of the sea has caused serious problems to coastal defences in the area, including unseating several large boulders supporting the shallow cliffs. The area is to be reinforced with large stones and supports.
