Walking in Portugal

Published by Pili Pala Press

This is a wonderful book for walkers, as long as you don’t want a guided walk in the Algarve! Although the title is Walking in Portugal, there are no walks in the Algarve at all. What is, however, comprehensively covered in this book, is the area from Évora northwards.

There are 33 step-by-step walk descriptions (not literally) over high peaks, past megalithic ruins and through abandoned villages and 32 pages of full colour maps to help you find your way. A useful section includes details and drawings of where to find Portugal’s plants and animals, with 13 pages of illustrated identification tips.

Pili Pala Press emerged from the chrysalis of Footprint Guides (pili pala is Welsh for butterfly) and the authors try to cover walking destinations that are normally overlooked. For each book sold, the publishers donate 75 cents to environmental organisations in Portugal.

Available in paperback at 21.30 euros
