Nicholas Alvarez was delighted with the response to the inaugural session of Walking Football for the over 50s in the west Algarve. Despite it being the only wet day for five months, there was a promising turnout at the Boavista resort, Lagos.
The slower version of the beautiful game is gaining worldwide recognition as more and more older players are returning to a sport that they never thought they would play again.
With little physical contact, slide tackles are banned and a two-touch rule, it is not surprising that the game is fast-paced. Even non-footballers are enjoying the exercise and camaraderie.
Nicholas Alvarez said: “We’re hoping to enter a team in the upcoming tournament at Browns Sports & Leisure Club on October 9-10, so come along and give it a try.”
The sessions are every Wednesday from 9.30am to 11.30am.
