Walking Football kicks off in São Brás

Under a clear blue sky 18 mature players put their best feet forward as São Brás de Alportel welcomed its first ever Walking Football session for those over 50 years of age. This is a slow version of the beautiful game with no running on or off the ball. Minimal contact, no slide tackling or tackling from behind.

For the newcomers, it was definitely a case of self discipline as the natural reaction is to break into a jog!

Thanks to the efforts of Alex Moreira and Ian Lowe, and with the support of São Brás de Alportel municipality, the first-class facilities at the Campos de Jogos municipal astro-turf pitch in Rua João de Deus will host the sessions every Tuesday morning from 9.30am to 11.30am. There is no regular commitment required so visitors, as well as local residents, are more than welcome to join in – just turn up and play.

All players are reminded of the third annual Walking Football Christmas Dinner in Olhão on Thursday, December 15 when the prestigious Zimmer Awards will be a main part of the evening‘s celebrations.
