Walking festival to bring hikers to Alcoutim

Alcoutim will be hosting its third ‘Festival de Caminhadas’ (Walking Festival) over the weekend of April 9-10.

A total of eight hikes are planned, each with its own theme.

Some will involve birdwatching or a boat trip on the Guadiana River, while others take in Spanish castles and teach hikers how to make bread.

Mayor Osvaldo Gonçalves says the event has become “an anchor for local tourism,” attracting visitors during what is still the low season.

Admission is free for most of the events.
