Walking festival to bring hikers flocking

If the thought of different hiking trails and a variety of workshops, entertainment and food gets you excited, then you will enjoy the 2nd Walking Festival of the Algarve (Festival de Caminhadas).
It will be taking place between April 25 and 27 in Ameixial, Loulé, in the mountainous rural Serra do Caldeirão, and promises to become one of the staple events for hikers in the Algarve.
With archaeological, bird-sighting and photography walks, there appears to be something for everyone in this year’s event – and if you ever wanted to learn how to really read a map, here is your chance. The workshops are all based around teaching hikers how to guide and take care of themselves while alone out in the wilderness.
At the end of each day, participants will meet for typical country-style meals to share thoughts, ideas and advice.
Entertainment is also confirmed but specific details have yet to be announced.
The festival will provide accommodation areas, camping areas, parking for motorhomes, and special menus for hikers.
Participation is free but anyone interested in taking part must sign up by 5pm on April 24.
The festival is organised by ProActiveTur, Lda and Projecto Estela and promoted by Loulé council. Supporting entities include the parish council of Ameixial, Projecto TASA, Projecto Querença, Clube Ameixialense and the Direção-Geral do Património Cultural.
