The Silves Rotary Club and the International Lions Club of Loulé are joining forces on Sunday, December 8, when they will be starting the festive season with a stroll around the Algarve countryside – and everyone is invited to participate.
The walk is also intended to raise funds for charities that collect and distribute food to the needy of the Algarve.
Participants should bring a donation of non-perishable foodstuffs, enough to provide a Christmassy meal. Monetary donations will also be accepted. All donations of food and money will go to charities in Loulé and Silves.
The walk will be approximately 6kms in length with 50m ascents/descents on tarmac roads, tracks and paths in the vicinity of Paderne.
Walkers will visit Paderne’s Moorish Castle on its promontory overlooking the Ribeira de Quarteira, together with an ancient Roman bridge, the remains of a water mill and a well-preserved beehive faggot oven.
The walk will start at the public laundry (Antigo Lavadouro Público de Paderne), at 10.30pm, where there is ample space for parking. Suitable footwear for rough terrain is recommended.
A traditional Portuguese lunch at Paraíso do Algarve, close to Paderne, will follow the walk.
Lunch must be pre-booked and you will be advised of menu choices when you make your reservation. Cost is €15 per person.
