OVER 1,300 people of all ages took part in the Ria Formosa walk organised by Faro Câmara on Sunday, over double the number that participated last year.
Congregating at Vale das Almas, close to Faro Airport, the walkers took part in a 30 minute warm-up session before setting off at 10am.
With the Ria Formosa landscape for scenery, the walkers were given a choice of three different distances: five, eight or 12 kilometres, which they could select according to their fitness level.
Drinks were provided at the half-way point and, upon finishing, every participant was given a T-shirt and snack. Adding to the event’s happy atmosphere was a rousing performance by a Faro folklore troupe.
The event, now in its eighth year, is organised with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle. In an effort to set an example, Faro Câmara President, José Apolinário, exchanged his usual suit and tie for shorts and T-shirt, taking part in the walk with his wife.
