Coimbra neurosurgeon investigated over ‘suspicious deaths’

Waiting for surgeries in Portugal: roughly 242,000 patients

SNS surgical waiting lists – a feature of the State health system that has always been ‘complicated’ – are worse than ever thanks to the chaos caused by the pandemic.

ACSS – the service’s central administration – admits to having around 242,000 patients currently waiting for surgeries, roughly 100,000 of which have been holding out for well in excess of the ‘guaranteed response period’.

The SIGIC system of getting surgeries performed in the private sector has also been cut back.
