A criminal investigation has been opened after a severed snake head was found among broccoli by a client at US restaurant chain, T.G.I Friday in New York.
It is believed that the uncooked snake head was placed in the food after the broccoli had been boiled.
This was confirmed by independent laboratory results, which revealed the head was effectively still in a “raw” state.
All broccoli has now been withdrawn from T.G.I Friday restaurants until the investigation is completed.
“We don’t know who was involved in this senseless act of product tampering,” said company spokesman Amy Freshwater, adding: “This is obviously something we take very seriously”.”
