A new initiative will see shops in Vila Real de Santo António’s historic centre offering discounts on the last Sunday of every month.
The scheme entitled ‘White Sunday’ is inspired by the American ‘Black Friday’ sales idea.
Mayor Luís Gomes sees it as a “unique opportunity to promote the town and its historic centre as it will have a beneficial snowball effect on the economy”.
He added the plan has Spanish tourists in mind – as the town is popular for weekend excursions – and complements the town’s bid for UNESCO recognition (click here).
VRSA’s first ‘White Sunday’ will be held on January 30 and hopes for “around 1,500 people”.
White props will be used to identify the shops taking part.
Opening hours will run from 10.30am to 6pm.
