Vila Real de Santo António council has embarked on repairs to Manta Rota’s main road, Estrada da Manta Rota.
Costing €125,000, the work centres on the stretch connecting the village to its well-known beach.
It is also aimed at extending pedestrian walkways between Rua Tenente General Vila Lobos and Largo da Manta Rota.
The council explains its brief will free-up space for more “leisure areas and outdoor cafés while also producing extra shade.
Traffic changes result, however: Rua Quinta da Manta Rota will become a two-way street, while traffic on Rua do Barranco will be one-way.
The work, not expected to cause any upsets as the seasons begins, should be completed by the end of this month.
