Vocal Academy Algarve to start in September

Workshops for choir singing and voice technique will be held from September as part of a new project, ‘Vocal Academy Algarve’, designed for all those who enjoy singing, have choir experience and music reading knowledge.
The aim of Vocal Academy Algarve is working and performing international choir literature on weekend sessions.
Singer and voice teacher Birgit Wegemann, who has been working with choirs and soloists for some years, is determined to try a “quantum leap”.
According to the experience she gathered conducting workshops in the Algarve she knows that there are singers who would like to be challenged to a higher level.
The weekend sessions would give people not living permanently in the Algarve a chance to participate in these workshops, in a friendly and focused atmosphere, meeting fellow singers from different nationalities.
Everybody who already sings in one of the local Algarve choirs will also benefit from the technical and musical topics to be worked on at the Vocal Academy Algarve.
For experienced teacher Birgit Wegemann studying and preparing the music is as important as focusing on topics like breath control, voice technique and intonation. The workshops will be held in German, English and Portuguese language.
Audition will be held during the week of September 22 to 28. Details about time and place will be given on request (see contacts below).
Birgit Wegemann is a classical trained singer, who for years has been giving concerts regularly in Lagos, Tavira, Faro, Lagoa and Portimão. She is a member of the Coro Casa da Música in Porto, led by the well-known conductor Paul Hillier.
She has been choir master of the International Choir of Aljezur, and build up a Chamber Choir at the Regional Conservatory of Faro. Her musical repertoire ranges from Renaissance to Contemporary music.
