The death of a bombeiro has been honoured in a special ceremony presided over by Faro Câmara President, José Vitorino.
The death of fireman José Paulo Laranjeira Afonso, who was killed in January following an accident during a training session, prompted widespread grief in Faro where thousands attended his funeral.
Vitorino handed over the city’s Gold Medal to his widow and children and a committee of municipal firemen handed over the Medal of Thanks in honour of his services.
