Vital away win for Olhanense

Three consecutive wins have propelled SC Olhanense up to sixth place in the Campeonato de Portugal Division D. The latest victory against 1st Dezembro in Lisbon came courtesy of goals from Caleb and Fábio Pereira.

Caleb’s 22nd minute strike was his fourth of the season and set the Olhão team on the road to only their second away win of the season. Olhanense keeper João Azul, ever-present in the league this season, picked up an injury 10 minutes after break and was replaced by former Arbroath FC (Scotland) keeper Ricky Gomes.

Midway through the second-half, Gilberto Lozano levelled matters for the home side but, six minutes later, Fábio Pereira bagged the winner for Olhanense.

New signing Adewale Sapara was on the bench and his previous goal scoring prowess for Oleiros (Division C) – eight goals in 13 games – could be a boon to Olhanense who have found it hard to find the back of the net in the first-half of the season.

Additionally, two further new recruits Italian-Bulgarian midfielder Vladislav Zhukov (ex-Livorno and Milan) and Senegalese goalkeeper Alioune Fall (ex-Parma, Italy) will provide the squad with more depth.

With the playing surface at the José Arcanjo Stadium still undergoing renovation work, Sunday’s home game against Moura FC will take place at the Olhão Municipal Stadium (approximately one kilometre north of the EN125 on the N2-60), with kick-off at 3pm.
