“Violent attack and €500 robbery” in downtown Faro

Two people were robbed in downtown Faro on Tuesday (December 13) just a few hours apart, one of them being violently attacked and the other, an elderly man, losing €500.

According to national tabloid Correio da Manhã, police believe the culprit is the same.

The first robbery happened at 4am on Rua Conselheiro Bívar, one of the town’s most popular bar districts. The victim was a 43-year-old Cape Verdean man, who was knocked out with a “punch to the eye” after refusing to hand over his wallet.

The attacker fled with the wallet, which only had documents, leaving his victim unconscious on the ground.

After being treated, the man was released from Faro Hospital.

The other case happened nine hours later. An 84-year-old man was robbed of €500 in €50 notes at 1pm on Rua Almeida Garrett, though CM reports that he was not physically attacked.

The tabloid adds that both victims described their attacker as a man aged between 30 and 40, which suggests it was the same person.

Police are investigating.
