I wish I had read the articles before visiting Vilamoura and spoken to a few taxi drivers as I arrived. I now have a deep 2cm cut between my eyes as a result of a mugging. Whichever youths wearing New York Yankees hats did this got nothing.
Fortunately I was able to stay on my feet, pull away and run but I was very lucky. I understand this can happen in any city, especially coming from Glasgow, but it is harrowing to hear how common this is and in regular locations.
It certainly ruined my holiday and means I won’t be back. Why? Not because I got mugged but because I called the police for assistance on their emergency number twice and they just hung up on me – I could have been dying!
