Participants from eight villages – Algoz, Budens, Cachopo, Estoi, Monchique, Odeleite, Querença and Vaqueiros, were asked to produce recipes typifying the heritage of each village, using traditional ingredients.

Tasting sessions took place in each village where a panel of nine judges appraised the entries. Prizes were awarding in four separate categories -– starter, soup, main dish and dessert. Main dishes submitted included traditional country duck and home made chicken stew. Sweet delicacies on offer included honey pudding and Algarve tart.

First prize in the four categories went to the villages of Vaqueiros, Odeleite, Cachopo and Monchique.
