Villagers take on Bishop of Porto

Religious passion continues in the village of Canelas, Vila Nova de Gaia, (see: Over 150 villagers came together on Sunday for a placard-waving demo as the rest of the world focused on Paris. Canelas’ fervour is for the return of its parish priest, Roberto, removed, as far as parishioners can see, by an intransigent hierarchy. Tactics so far have involved the boycotting of mass and communion classes. Thus far, the Bishop of Porto has refused to acknowledge the protests.
