It’s certainly one way of saving on Christmas tree lights and decorations – but the impetus seems to have been to bring people together: The village of Medelim has this year created a tree made out of over 1,000 crocheted squares. The 6m high labour of love has become a new tradition within the tight-knit community. And this year’s novelty is a crocheted nativity scene to stand alongside the tree. Medelim is in the borough of Idanha-a-Nova, in the district of Castelo Branco. Villagers worked on the project for the last two months.
