Portimão Câmara is planning to build a village from scratch, mainly targeted at elderly people.
“It is a pilot project to be implemented in phases, which involves national and EU funds and partnerships with charities and private companies and everyone who is interested in investing in the project,” said Portimão Mayor Manuel da Luz.
The Mayor could not give an estimate for the cost of the project but revealed that the so-called Aldeia Inclusiva will have capacity for about 150 people.
The project will have a day centre for the elderly, an inter-generational education centre and room to promote traditional products, among others.
The village will be built at Carriçal in the parish of Mexilhoeira Grande.
Detailed plans for the project are expected later this year.
