Vila Real de Santo António is due to host a peace vigil in support of Ukraine on Wednesday (March 2) between 6pm and 8pm at Praça Marquês do Pombal.
The goal is to call for “peace in Ukraine” and show “solidarity to the Ukrainian people who are seeing their lives, families and possessions threatened”, the local council said in a statement to the press.
Anyone will be able to take part and show their support at the event, which will be attended by Ukrainians living in VRSA and local mayor Álvaro Araújo. The town hall will also be lit up with the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
The local council will also carry out “several initiatives to collect food and other items” to be delivered to several humanitarian associations. The full list is available at www.cm-vrsa.pt
