Vila Galé Albacora hosts third Tuna Festival

Vila Galé Albacora Eco-Hotel in Tavira will celebrate its heritage this weekend (April 15-17) with the third ‘Almadrava Tuna Festival’.

For three days, visitors will be able to take part in several free tuna-related activities, such as film screenings, tours, photography exhibitions and tuna culinary experiences.

The festival is inspired by the history of the hotel, built following the restoration of a former tuna fishing camp (Arraial Ferreira Neto).

The old fishermen houses were converted into rooms and the hotel has preserved the chapel and the old school for the children of the fishing camp residents.

Part of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa,Vila Galé Albacora also has a museum dedicated to the art of tuna fishing.

On Friday, the festival will begin with the opening of a photo exhibit at the hotel at 7pm, including works by the f/18.1 group and old photographs from the Companhia de Pescarias do Algarve.

The following day at 11am, a tour of the area will be led by a former Arraial Ferreira Neto resident.

Later that afternoon, the hotel will host a tuna workshop focusing on how to cut and cook the fish.

There will also be several lunches and dinners at the hotel’s Salinas restaurant.

Cost is €19 per person for lunch and €25 for dinner, drinks included. Children from the age of seven to 12 benefit from a 50% discount.
