Vila do Bispo delivers Christmas hampers to families in need

Vila do Bispo Council has delivered 95 Christmas hampers to families in need in the borough.

The charity initiative was carried out between December 12 and 16 and saw the hampers being given to families which had been identified by the council’s Social Action Services with the help of local Social Security Services, the Cultural and Social Centre of Figueira and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Vila do Bispo.

Hampers included must-have items for a traditional Portuguese Christmas, such as codfish, bolo-rei (typical Portuguese Christmas cake), olive oil, oil, potatoes, pasta, milk, canned tuna, cheese, flour, rice, sugar, beans and chickpeas.

The initiative aims to “mitigate the economic and social needs of the borough’s disadvantaged families in order to provide a little more comfort to those in need during the Christmas season,” says the council.
