Vigil on eve of birthday

A vigil was held last night (Friday May 11) for missing Madeleine.

The little church in Praia da Luz, the Nossa Senhora de Fátima, was filled to overflowing with more than 300 locals praying for the same result – the return of Madeleine to her loving parents, Gerry and Kate.

All visitors wore something green and some carried branches with new shoots on them to signify growth, hope and new life.

The vicar of the church tied everyone together with green rope to symbolize togetherness in this difficult time.

The small pink toy named Cuddle Cut, loved and cherished by Madeleine, which has been carried by mother Kate since her daughter’s disappearance, was joined by another toy that was donned with a green hat in keeping with the service.
