Death row prisoner found pregnant
A FEMALE inmate, who was being held in solitary confinement was found to be 11 weeks pregnant last week. The father is believed to be a fellow prisoner, who delivered food to all prisoners on death row. Two Vietnamese prison guards have been detained and thrown off the police force for abusing their power in letting the fellow inmate to remain in the woman’s cell. Vietnamese law states that death sentences for pregnant women must be changed to life sentences. The 39-year-old Nguyen Thi Oahn lost a previous appeal to overturn her death sentence and was due to face a firing squad before the end of the year. She was convicted of narcotics trafficking, 63,000 US dollars-worth of heroin was found in her possession.
