Victims of burglary call for increased security

British homeowners who were the victims of a burglary at their home in Fazenda Santiago near Almancil on March 23 are calling for an increase in police presence in the area.

The British couple had been out for the evening between 7.30pm and 10.30pm on March 23 but had left their house occupied by one person and their four dogs, unlike press reports that suggested the house was unoccupied, when thieves stole jewellery and cash from their home.

Speaking to the Algarve Resident this week, the couple, who did not wish to be named, said: “Since being burgled, we have heard of so many other victims in the area.  If there is no solution to this increase in crime, the Algarve will become like a desert.”

“There is no excuse to say that crime happens everywhere.  Security needs to be increased because the houses in the Algarve have become easy pickings for thieves.”  D.S.
