Victim recognises thief  in Almancil

AFTER BEING robbed at knifepoint eight days earlier, a man in Almancil recognised his attacker cycling past the paper shop where he worked. The sighting, which he immediately reported to the GNR, has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man, wanted in connection with two robberies in the Almancil area in the space of a week.

The assailant stole 55 euros from the newsagents and robbed a Canadian man at knifepoint close to the São Lourenço International School, stealing 120 euros. On receiving the call from the paper shop worker, the police arrived quickly on the scene and managed to locate the man in a nearby video store. The suspect is due to appear before Loulé Court.

Loulé GNR have also detained a 20-year-old Romanian woman for stealing five video games from the town’s Modelo supermarket. The woman left the store with the video games in a bag covered in aluminium foil, thus preventing the activation of the alarm system. However, a member of the shop’s staff had seen the woman acting suspiciously and informed the security guard. The suspect was intercepted in the car park, whereupon the video games were discovered and handed over to the local police. The Romanian has been freed by the court but is required to report regularly to the police station.
