A MAN in Germany who had a rare and valuable collection of coins stolen from his house had them returned three days later when the thief deposited them in the bank for safe keeping.

Soon after the thief deposited the loot, the bank worker recognised the coins as his own, which are worth an estimated 50,000 euros.

The 36-year-old suspect was arrested by police, who secured other stolen goods in the process.

“I don’t think the thief was expecting that,” said a spokesman for police in the western city of Dortmund.
