Very late moves

OUT-OF-FAVOUR Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy, already in Birmingham last week, changed his mind at the last minute and headed north to Celtic where he signed a five-month loan deal. The Scottish champions were able to meet his 60,000 euros-a-week pay demands after Henri Camara left for Southampton.

Portsmouth signed Slovenian NK Gurica striker, Alexander Rodic, but missed out on Celtic’s Juninho, who is staying put, and Manchester’s Eric Djemba-Djemba, who has chosen Aston Villa instead. The 23-year-old midfielder was also wanted by Birmingham, but was persuaded to join the Midland side’s arch-rivals for just over two million euros.

Spurs completed their amazing transfer spree with the 10 million euro signing of the young Nottingham Forest pair Andy Reid and Michael Dawson. Both are highly rated England U21 and Republic of Ireland internationals, bringing the total number of new arrivals at White Hart Lane to seven this January alone.

Latest news concerns Arsenal’s sensational newcomer, José António Reyes who, although successful on the pitch, has failed to settle in London. A swap deal involving Real Madrid’s Michael Owen looks to be on the cards in the summer.
