Air crash in remote region
A Colombian airliner with 152 people on board crashed on Tuesday in a remote northwestern region of Venezuela just as The Resident was going to press.
The West Caribbean Airways plane was reported to have been travelling from Panama to French Island Martinique. Rescue workers were said to be on their way to the area of the crash in the state of Zulia.
At the time of going to press, it was unclear whether there were any survivors. A Venezuelan aviation official said the pilots had contacted air traffic control to report engine problems and that contact with the plane was lost soon after.
