The welcome rain that fell across Portugal yesterday did not please everyone. It caused localised flooding in Lisbon – as it always seems to if it falls at the same time as high tide. Around 120 ‘incidents’ were called in to authorities; underpasses were affected (some requiring temporary closure) and shops in the Baixa district suffered particularly. Parish council president Miguel Coelho (Santa Maria Maior) stressed that the incidents reinforced the need for a long overdue ‘Drainage Plan for Lisbon’.
