Valverde Lawn Bowls Club in Almancil held the final of their President’s Shield on November 18.
This knockout competition held over two days involved four rounds of singles. Two bowls are used and only bowls within a metre of the jack score. It is a game of accuracy and consistency.
With nearly 50 members and visitors present for the morning roll up, the finalists, Keith Henley and Peter Hollis, received appreciative applause.
Keith led throughout the match but Peter caught up bringing the score to 13 each. After a non-scoring end, Keith took the next two to secure the win. Club captain Alan Preece presented the Shield and runners up medal.
