Valverde Lawn Bowls Club in Almancil held its club championship finals recently. The knockout competitions start in November and comprise singles, pairs and triples matches.
This year’s singles finals resulted in Sue Hunt beating Penny Henley 21-10 in the ladies’ match and club captain Peter Hollis beating Alan Siddall 21-13 in the men’s.
In the pairs, Pat Collins and Keith Henley beat Penny Henley and David Laing 23-12. The Australian pairs were won by Alaine Grenier and Alan Siddall who defeated John Denn and Ray Garnett 23-13.
The triples match saw the winners come from behind in the last few ends to win by 18 shots to 15. The team comprised Jack Romano, Jenny Preza and Helen Scott. Their opponents were Keith Henley, David Russell and Diane Williams.
The club now has a few weeks of visiting teams from the UK before commencing its summer league matches.
