Valverde Bowls Club officially opens

Valverde Bowls Club in Almancil officially opened its green on October 18 with 64 bowlers, representing nine different clubs across the region, participating in an Open Pairs Competition. 

When the Vale do Lobo Bowls Club closed in March 2007, the search started for a site for a new green and now the Club Committee’s dream of building a bowling green has been realised. 

“We were offered a lease on a plot of land at the rear of the Don CaQmillo Restaurant at Valverde, and after much debating and planning, the new green was conceived,” said Jan McGlynn, the Club’s secretary.

“With founder members generously investing in the project and a firm management committee in place, the barren plot of land turned into an oasis of green turf and the Valverde Bowls Club was born.”

The club already has a membership of about 50.
