Valverde Lawn Bowls Club in Almancil held their Club Championship finals over three days. The event is usually held on one day but this year Mel Knickle succeeded in reaching four of the five finals.
On Friday, March 20 Penny Henley, Eric Brown and Peter Hollis defeated Carol Barnes, Alan Hyatt and Mel Knickle in the Drawn Triples final.
On the Saturday there was good support, despite a cold wind and the threat of rain, for the three finals held that day.
The Drawn Australian Pairs final was won by Sue Hunt and Alan Hyatt who beat Eric Rawlins and Mel Knickle. The men’s singles final was the match of the day with superb bowls from Keith Henley and Mel Knickle. Mel eventually was victorious. Jen Preece defeated Pat Collins in an enjoyable ladies singles final.
On Sunday afternoon, Carol Barnes and Jan McGlynn took the final trophies by beating Barry Grimes and Mel Knickle in the Drawn Pairs final.
