Two works of art by British painters, valued at between 5,000 and 10,000 euros each, were stolen from a property in the Caramujeira area of Lagoa.
One of the paintings, dated to the 19th century, is entitled Highwayman with coach and was painted by Laslett John Pott.
The other is entitled Landscape and was painted in the 18th century by John Rathbone.
It is possible that the paintings have been sold on the black market and, according to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the Polícia Judiciária has already contacted Interpol to assist in finding the works of art.
Meanwhile, four paintings were also stolen from a house in Porches, in Lagoa council. Two of those works were by renowned Dutch painter Andreas Schelfhout.

Anyone who may have seen these paintings or may have information about their whereabouts are urged to contact the PJ’s department of criminal investigation in Portimão located on Rua Pé da Cruz, n˚2 or telephone 282 405 400.
