Professional Dutch chocolatier and pastry chef Jack Breedveld will be hosting a Valentine’s chocolate exhibition at his home in Carvoeiro on Sunday, February 1.
Visitors will be able to purchase a selection of freshly made chocolate confections including filled chocolate hearts, marzipan figures, truffles and bon bons.
“I use the finest quality ingredients to make confectionery including chocolate imported from Belgium and butter imported from Austria,” said Jack.
“When people taste good quality, they notice the difference. Fresh chocolate is the best and the smell is wonderful.”
At the free exhibition, which will be open from 11am until 5pm, there will also be a competition to win a handmade chocolate heart, as well as opportunities to speak to Jack about his work or place an order.
Jack will also be holding his first workshop as part of a weekend dedicated to chocolate at the Hotel Memmo Baleeira, near Sagres, on February 7 and 8.
During the three-hour workshop, participants will learn to make a variety of chocolate confections, which they will take home with them at the end.
“During the workshop, I talk about chocolate, the different qualities and differences between shop bought and freshly made confections,” said Jack. “I invite participants to help me heat the chocolate before we all make things together.”
Jack also adds something new and unusual to each session, such as adding sea salt to chocolate for example.
“I love working with chocolate and enjoy showing adults and children how to work with it. People are always happy when they are around chocolate,” he said.
