Portuguese health chiefs (DGS) are worried about the number of people who refuse to vaccinate their children and are pondering whether they can make vaccination mandatory.
“This is an issue that has been analysed many times. However, there are many contradictions about constitutional principles and rights,” said DGS director Francisco George.
Up until now, vaccination is not obligatory in Portugal. Elsewhere, the controversial measels vaccine is obligatory throughout Eastern Europe while polio innoculations are legally required in 12 countries, including Belgium and Italy.
