Regional health authority ARS Algarve has announced that Covid-19 vaccinations have started at nursing homes and long-term care facilities, where residents, patients and staff members are receiving their vaccines.
In a statement to the press on Tuesday, the regional health authority said that priority was given to facilities in Albufeira and Tavira, the two worst-affected boroughs by the pandemic at the moment, but also some in Loulé and Vila Real de Santo António.
By the end of the week, ARS Algarve boss Paulo Morgado expects 900 people will have received the vaccine.
The goal is to vaccinate 9,000 nursing home residents and staff across the Algarve by the end of February, he said.
The vaccination process is being led by teams from the region’s three health centre groups, which include doctors and nurses.
