Insults || Mykki Blanco, an American rapper and LGBT icon who was arrested on May 19 at Lisbon Airport after verbal conflict with the police authorities, claims he was taken into custody “for being gay” – although he admits to having told a police officer to “f*** off”.
While PSP police accuse him of disrespecting a taxi line and insulting a police officer, the rapper said on his Facebook page that he was “swindled by the Portuguese police department for being a gay black tourist”.
“I was told by a taxi attendant that I could not use my credit card, only cash. He and the cop then refused to help or answer any other questions I had about an alternative,” he wrote.
According to the rapper, the two men “were impatient and short” with him while “eagerly helping white tourists” who were behind Blanco in line.
Blanco even claims to have been called a “bicha” – Portuguese slang for “queer”.
Finally “losing his patience”, the rapper told the police officer to “f*** off”.
The rapper was arrested following the incident and presented to court, where he was sentenced to pay a €600 fine.
He has since returned to the US and blocked Portuguese users from commenting on his Facebook page, as apparently his accusations stirred a lot of controversy amongst Portuguese people.
Mikky Blanco is actually a feminine persona of 27-year-old Michael Quattlebaum Jr., who is said to have become something of an idol to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.
According to New York newspaper Village Voice, he is known for “rapping about gay sex, mutant monsters and Albert Einstein”.
He was in Portugal to perform at a gallery show in Lisbon on Wednesday (May 21).
