In a bid to see more US and Russian publications writing about the Algarve, the region’s tourism association (ATA) held a press trip for American and Russian journalists last week.
The initiative allowed them to “discover the region’s potential for all kinds of tourism”, ATA said in a statement.
As the association explains, the USA is one of the fastest growing markets for tourism in Portugal. In the Algarve alone, the number of American holidaymakers grew by 23.4% in 2016.
There are also more Russian tourists visiting the Algarve, with numbers last year topping 40,000.
ATA says that press trips are a “common strategy” used by the association to promote the region in foreign markets.
